Embrace new digital technology with ADAPT

Embrace new digital technology with ADAPT

Two of Cheshire East’s most digitally advanced businesses are opening their doors to help smaller businesses learn from their expertise and to create awareness of the ADAPT programme set up by the Skills and Growth Company.
The ADAPT programme helps businesses embrace digital and automation techniques to boost productivity and two “best practice” learning visits are taking place in March at companies who have become world-class digital innovators – Siemens has developed ground-breaking product development and production techniques at their variable-speed drives factory in Congleton, whilst RedEye  in Crewe has pioneered the use of marketing automation software used by some of the UK’s biggest brands.
The project is being funded by Innovate UK, and each visit will be facilitated by an Innovation Expert who will ensure you take away practical learning that can be applied in your own business.

Making Tax Digital … are you ready?

Making Tax Digital … are you ready?

Under the Making Tax Digital initiative, businesses with turnover exceeding the VAT registration threshold (£85,000 until 2022) will, with a small number of exceptions, be required to submit VAT returns for periods beginning on or after 1 April 2019 directly from software.  It will not be possible to type the return into HMRC’s VAT portal as most do at the moment.

This will mean businesses using manual records, spreadsheets or older accounting packages need to consider how they will submit VAT returns going forward.  It may mean moving to a modern cloud-based accountancy package and it is important to discuss with your accountant how your business will be ready for making tax digital.

Thorneycroft Solicitors appoint new board member Nicola Dickinson

Thorneycroft Solicitors appoint new board member Nicola Dickinson

Due to a continued period of growth, Thorneycroft Solicitors are pleased to announce that Nicola Dickinson, the Head of Volume Legal services at the firm, is to take a position on the Thorneycroft Solicitors Board.

Nicola’s new role will take effect from 1st December 2018, and she will take the role of Director of Volume Legal Services and Legal Operations.

The announcement follows a series of recent successes for the firm including the acquisition of Leathems Solicitors in Whaley Bridge in August and the sponsorship of British Superbike rider Christian Iddon in September.

Nicola has been with the firm since December 2015 and in that time she has made a significant impact. She has brought her considerable experience to improve the firms’ systems and procedures across their New Business Department, Portal and Litigation Teams.

The efficiencies made in these Teams and new structures put in place have helped the firm to deliver an improved Client service, progress cases and achieve targets set.

As a result of improved performance in these Teams, Thorneycroft Solicitors have been able to expand their business to bring on new commercial partners and grow existing relationships.

This has led to the Firm setting up their Credit Hire Team. That Department has now grown to encompass the Credit Hire Team and Employers Liability Claims Team. As a result of this growth, the Department was rebranded as the Volume Legal Services Department.

As a Board member, Nicola will be able to contribute to improvements across the firm with ideas and efficiencies which have worked successfully in the Volume Department to date.

Wine-tasting at Laithwaite’s Alderley Edge

Wine-tasting at Laithwaite’s Alderley Edge

Our latest evening of networking took place at Laithwaite’s Wine Merchants in Alderley Edge, and what better way to get into the festive spirit than wine-tasting?!

Held in their bespoke event space, our hosts for the evening were David Wagstaff, General Manager, and Thomas Ottley, Event Manager.  Following an introduction and background information on the company from David, guests were given the chance to taste four completely different wines, ranging from a crisp sparkling wine, to a full-bodied red.  Tom talked the group through each wine, and his impressive knowledge and infectious enthusiasm meant a relaxed and fun evening was enjoyed by all.

At the end guests had the chance to purchase wine from the vast selection in the shop, a great opportunity to stock up in time for Christmas.

For more information on Laithwaite’s and their service offering, you can call the team on 0161 507 2233 or visit the website at www.laithwaites.co.uk
